On Saturday, April 2nd, Professor Fabrizio Stocchi, Head of the Center for Parkinson’s Disease Diagnosis and Treatment at IRCCS San Raffaele Pisana in Rome, was interviewed on Magazine 7, a weekly current affairs program on La7. He provided insights into the disease and the latest therapies for Parkinson’s, which are currently more effective.
Parkinson’s disease primarily affects movements, especially the automatic ones that make up 90% of our daily activities. Patients with Parkinson’s experience significant difficulty in moving and are very slow and rigid.
The diagnosis is mainly clinical, based on the observation of the patient’s symptoms, as there is still no biomarker to indicate the presence of the disease, despite ongoing studies. Moreover, this condition is increasingly affecting younger individuals, with 1 in 4 experiencing onset before the age of 50.
Professor Fabrizio Stocchi, Leading Center in Europe
The center led by Professor Fabrizio Stocchi is a national reference point in the field of motor and sensory rehabilitation and collaborates with many other European and American centers to develop clinical research aimed at improving existing therapies and exploring new ones.
Four of these studies, coordinated by Professor Fabrizio Stocchi and published last year in international medical and scientific journals, also focused on the GONDOLA® device. Within the interview, Professor Fabrizio Stocchi also discusses AMPS therapy delivered with GONDOLA® and how stimulation helps patients regain their motor independence.
