Gondola Home: a therapeutic device designed for personal use

We already talked about Gondola® Professional, the multi-patient device for outpatient or in-hospital use. In this article, we’d like to talk about Gondola® Home, the device designed to self-administer the AMPS (Automated Mechanical Peripheral Stimulation) therapy.

Take AMPS therapy with you, wherever you go

Gondola® Home device has been developed to let the patient be independent and keep doing the AMPS therapy alone.

It reveals to be particularly helpful for those patients who have problems frequently moving from their home to the therapist, as it allows for quick and easy self-administration of AMPS.

In fact, it’s just necessary to make a couple of visits to a specialized center. Then, if the benefits are significant, the patient can adopt Gondola® Home.

It requires the intervention of a trained therapist for the first configuration visit – where an accurate calibration and training for the patients are done. After that, patients can use it anytime in the comfort of their homes.

What can I benefit from the therapy?

AMPS therapy effectively improves walking and balance impairment due to neurological disorders like Parkinson’s, Stroke, Cerebral Palsy, and others.

It is particularly helpful in:

  1. Increasing walking speed
  2. Increasing stride and step length
  3. Reducing the risk of falling
  4. Improving postural stability and dynamic balance
  5. Improving management freezing of gait episodes

When you try the effects of AMPS therapy in a clinical environment (at the hospital or one of our partner physiotherapy centers), your therapist will use a professional version of the device that can be adapted to each patient’s feet. This device, named Gondola® Professional, requires specific training that can be delivered only to qualified health professionals. Once you decide to purchase your own device to proceed with a regular self-administration of AMPS 2-3 times per week, you will use the Gondola® Home version of the device.

Both Gondola® Home and Gondola® Professional give the same AMPS therapy and, thus, the same benefits.

How does the therapy work?

The AMPS therapy consists of applying a sequential mechanical pressure on four specific target stimulation points, the first metatarsophalangeal joint and the head of the big toe of both feet. Activating the cutaneous mechanoreceptors at these target areas triggers a peripheral sensory input that travels towards the brain, increasing sensory integration and brain plasticity. As a consequence of the treatment, the efficiency of descending pathways increases, and walking performance is immediately improved.

If you want to learn more about the mechanism of action, you can download the white paper (scientific documentation), which reports all the clinical studies and you can share it with your family doctor to discuss this new therapy with them.

So, what’s the difference between Gondola® Professional and Gondola® Home?

Gondola® Home is conceived for self-administrated AMPS therapy by the patient, in a domestic environment. Every component of this device is thus designed to allow simple and fast use without needing an external qualified person (for example, a caretaker).

Using Gondola® Home is very straightforward: the patient needs to be seated in a comfortable position throughout the entire procedure and simply needs to insert their feet inside the device, tighten the belts and press the start button, as illustrated in the video below.
